What is the #ProofPointDay Pledge?
Why take the #ProofPointDay Pledge & how does it work?
Each individual who makes the #ProofPointDay Pledge commits to making their FG status a more visible and vocal part of their identity by updating their resumes and bios to include first generation college graduate.
We hope that a group coming forward to be explicit about their accomplishment of being the first in their family to graduate from college will help:
- Inspire conversations, discussions, and action around the impact FG leaders have across a variety of sectors.
- Bring together those committed to supporting the next generation of FGs to successfully complete college and make powerful decisions about their futures.
#ProofPointDay Pledge FAQ's
The #ProofPointDay Pledge is specifically focused on leaders who are the first in their family to graduate from college.
The goal is to create opportunities for FGs to be vocal and visible #proofpoints for the thousands of kids who have yet to begin the journey and for the thousands that are on the journey and may feel alone. Seeing yourself in someone is very powerful and can change the way a child and their family dreams. It’s hard to dream about things you don’t know exist.
A great education can be transformative. As a first generation college graduate, #ProofPointDay founder Chastity Lord is deeply passionate about and humbled by the role education has played in redefining her own dreams, narratives and personal revolutions. “I live a life that my mother and grandmother did not know existed – and I largely attribute this to my college degree which has provided my access to numerous visible and vocal #proofpoints.”
The primary goal of the #ProofPointDay is to bring visibility and voice to the hundreds of thousands of first generation college graduates (FGs) in the US, celebrating what is possible and inspiring the next generation. The secondary goal is to create a cohesive and expansive network of hundreds of thousands of future FG volunteers, funders and board members – #proofpoints in action. On #ProofPointDay each year, FGs and allies wear green to show their support. The pledge is a concrete way for FGs to become more visible and vocal in their communities and workplaces throughout the year.
Our hope is that the effort will continue for generations to come.
